Fear. After last week’s attacks in Beirut and Paris - and threats of attacks in the US - it seems to be gripping most people a little bit tighter.
How do you stop yourself from spiraling into a pit of fear, anxiety, anger and paranoia?
Well, first of all, you don’t expect it to happen automatically. You’re human. You feel things.
But, despite what you may think, you have the power over your emotions. You can choose to feel them or to channel them into something different.
I doubt anyone’s holding a gun to your head telling you to watch the news, so stop if it’s making you anxious.
I’m not saying to be ignorant to what’s going on, but peace begins with inner peace. We can only control ourselves and when we dwell in peace, we emit that energy into the world.
The Dalai Lama said, “Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” Wise man.
What you focus on expands, so if you’re talking about threats and the scary things in this world, your fear will only grow.
Do what you need to do to stay in peace. Put your focus on what you want - peace, protection, justice, calm, security, love, harmony...
I’m not saying these massacres were good, but I have seen good coming from them. People all over the world are uniting in peace and love, supporting one another, protecting each other...
Love is more powerful than fear. That’s the truth. That energy is real and when we dwell in those feelings, we emit that energy from within and create a ripple effect. We do.
Again, I’m not suggesting you deny what’s going on, but rather CHOOSE to look beyond it - to go to that higher place within and put your trust in something greater. There’s nothing to lose but fear.
